I’m concerned about whether a casino can increase the gambling addiction problem so I’ve made some research which I’d like to share with you. Ludomania (or Gambling problem) is a mental health problem. I feel very sorry about people suffering from this addictive disorder because they have an urge to continuously gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. Since prohibition didn’t eradicate drinking problem, putting a ban on gambling isn’t going to cure anybody of this habit. Nevertheless “a study of the University of Buffalo’s Research Institute on Addictions indicates the chance of becoming a gambling addict doubles if you live within 10 miles of a casino” and “Kathy Rein, who’s the gambling addiction specialist, said some members of her women’s group swear they would never have developed a problem if there wasn’t a casino near their homes”. Although this casino would have created a lot of posts, Las Vegas Sands wasn’t willing to fulfil Spanish lows related to smoking and taxes and maybe the cancellation of Eurovegas giant casino plan has prevented some people from becoming gambling addicts, who knows?. Anyway, I think mental disorders are as serious as illnesses as diseases are, and health authorities should pay more attention to them by increasing its funding for treatments.
