The Catalonian case is going to give us piles of titles in the newspapers in the coming months, covering smartly the daily problems that population faces. Politicians will divert attention to this, while the region would not be able to leave the regional bankrupt reached in the previous years, carrying society to its lowest levels of welfare. I admit to not paying much attention to Mr. Mas speeches about this issue, since he never mentions anything about which are going to be the real conditions for the new country, if this country could be economically viable, that is the core of the matter, keeping in mind that their economy would suffer the massive departure of the most important companies that don´t want to be damaged by political issues, obviously. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people in Spain would go further on the boycott to Catalonian companies and products, much more than it is being done nowadays. The nationalist parties argue that Catalonia represents about the 20 percent of Spanish GDP (Gross domestic product), and so that the Spanish government is afraid about losing that important figure. No one doubts that Catalonia is a productive region, but its success has been possible by the effort of the whole country, we should remind politicians that the success is not related to the place where you are born, but to the effort and intelligence that a person can develop. This so-called pro-independence forces have envy to Scottish process, and they use it to show that their independence is possible, that can provide answers, but they forget that Scotland is a very different case, historically, economically, socially and politically, I don´t want to enlarge more on this point. I am totally opposed to let Catalonia to do a referendum, because in my opinion, besides it’s a waste of money, public money in fact, the decision about if Catalonia could be a breakaway state belongs only to Spain. We will see…
