In my opinion, the reason of this abdication is not a casual decision. And in spite of the fact that it is said that king Juan Carlos has decided it in January, I think that the current political situation has much to do with this new, specially, after the results in the last European elections. Probably, not only the government or traditional political parties have realized that things are changing in our society, and also the Royal House has taken note of this point and has decided to take a step forward in a change. Besides, it is known than the royal family and the king himself have lost popularity increasingly due to several scandals, like for example, when king was hunting in Botswana while crisis was hitting our economy and millions of people were losing their jobs, houses or human rights. Not to mention the fact that his daughter and his son in law are under investigation due to a corruption case. But despite of this abdication, I think it isn’t enough. From my point of view, all institutions are trying to make us believe that they are changing but I don’t trust them. I think that they do it only because they are frightened of a real change. So, in my opinion, citizens should take advance of the situation in order to ask for a real transformation in all sections and powerful institutions in our country, because if not, they will try to convince us with only a list of little changes which will be frustrating. Maybe, it’s time for changing the Constitution, or consulting in a referendum if the majority of Spanish people want a monarchy or not. And if they want it, how it should be. If I had to speak my mind I would say that I prefer a Republic system, because I think it’s better to choose our representatives than having a king who has the power only because he belongs to an specific family. From my view it’s a big incoherence in a country which people are supposed to be equals.
